Manly Surf School on the Disney Channel

Thanks from Layne Beachley

Dear Werris

How are you? I trust you are well and looking forward to a well earned break over the holidays.

Thank you so much for your support of AFTS this year. Your generosity has made a profound difference to me and the foundation and I am sincerely appreciative of all that you do for us. This years Gala was the most successful one to date and it’s largely thanks to the kindness and generous spirit of people like you that allow us to continue enabling young girls and women to invest in their future and fulfil their potential. The girls all loved their surf lesson and it’s one thing every new applicant mentions when they receive the call from me when they are successful in receiving a grant.

Wishing you and your family a Very Merry Xmas and a safe and fun filled Happy New Year.

Look forward to catching up in 2016.

Sincerely,
Layne xx

Testimonial from Megan

Hi Matt,

Just touching base to thank you and your team so much for helping us out last week with treating our scholarship recipients how to surf. We were so well looked and your guys were just outstanding – so helpful, friendly and just a dream to deal with!

Sincerely appreciate your support of Layne and her Foundation which nurtures inspirational journeys and celebrates extraordinary achievement. The occasion would not have been quite so special without the incredible support of Manly Surf School.

Thank you, certainly hope to catch up with you before next year!

Kindest

Megan

Awesome new photos

It is amazing to see some of our young surfers from the High Performance Surf Coaching catching waves with incredible style. Nathan, Mat and Nic do their best to pass on their surfing knowledge and skill whilst providing as much resources as possible to help improve our surfers. So it was great to have Michael from Surf Photos of You out taking some sick shots of our crew. We are looking forward to some serious swell this Winter and to getting more snaps of our surfers. Check some photos out below.

Winter Vincent brings water to

Winter is 10 Years old and is a Waves 4 Water ambassador. In 2014 Winter started #surftoschool, a simple program that any motivated kid can execute at their own school. In February 2015 several schools on Sydney’s Northern Beaches held #surftoschool days in conjunction with the Hurley Australian Open of Surfing. As a result in March 2015 Winter’s second water mission was able to deliver and implement 100 water filters and 3 x 2000 litre water tanks in the Mentawai Islands Indonesia, one of the worlds best but poorest surf regions. Today schools from every major Australian State and around the world from Indonesia to the United States of America are participating in #surftoschool.

This is a unique experience for kids to combine something they love with helping others along the way. To date Winter’s effort have been recognised by both the Premier of NSW and the Prime Minister of Australia. To get involved visit wavesforwater.org/project/surftoschool

St Catherine’s school surf awareness program

To whom it may concern

Thanks for providing a great day last Thursday for St Catherine’s school surf awareness program. Many of the girls said it was “the best excursion ever” and we have had a lot of positive feedback from the parents.

Kind regards

Brett Wilson

Black Dog Institute Support

Manly Surf School are proud to be a part of raising $46,636 for the Black Dog Institute. You can find out more The Black Dog Institute at their website – blackdoginstitute.org.au/

Just a small note to say thank you again for donating a voucher for our event, Black Tie for Black Dog, and for helping to make it a successful night.

The event was held on Friday 24 October and it was a huge success. Together with your support we were able to raise $46,636 for the Black Dog Institute (including the Macquarie Group Foundation matching), which we are very proud of. It is a significant amount that will help improve the lives of people who suffer from mood altering disorders.

Your support and donation helped make our event possible, and I would like to sincerely thank you on behalf of the entire Graduate Volunteer Network for your support.

Kind Regards,
Laura (Macquarie Group Foundation)

The brainchild of President of Surfing Northern Beaches and Director of Manly Surf School, Matt Grainger, the gym has a weight room for strength training and a half pipe for the athletes to perform aerial surfing techniques.

“The goal is to provide northern beaches surfers the best possible training to help them compete on the world stage,” Grainger told the Manly Daily.

What’s Hot in Manly

Check out this review of Manly surf School from total travel

Whether you’re 5 or 75, the charming surf instructors at Manly Surf School will manage to get even the most novice surfers up standing, and feeling like a pro. As novices we didn’t quite know how successful attempts at mastering this essential Australian skill would be. But there was no reason to worry! Manly Surf School’s accredited instructors are not just there to teach, they also help you have a lot of fun while you learn! Running classes for all ages, ranging from private lessons, to day tours at surrounding northern beaches, group bookings and even advanced, intensive surfing courses, there really is a lesson for everyone.

You don’t have to bring a thing, just wear your swimming costume and the guys will take care of you. Located at the base of North Steyne Surf Lifesaving Club they provide boards, wetsuits, private change rooms and a safe place to store your valuables while you tear it up on the beach. After conquering the waves, we’re only left disappointed we’d waited this long to learn how to surf. It’s never too late to get involved, so why not give it a go!

Matt Grainger talks with Swellnet about advanced surf coaching

So what type of technical advice are you offering?
For technical, looking at all the way from foundations like your paddle on technique to using the wave, getting speed, all the way down to the bottom turn, re-entry, cutty and the higher level guys doing aerials and air reverses, so depending on the level we tailor it to that person.

Thanks, Sue from the Burdekin Association

Thanks Sue for the kind words.

Dear Matt,
On behalf of The Burdekin Association I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to you and your team (in particular our fabulous instructor Tom) for the opportunity to experience what surfing is all about.

Our young people had such a great time trying something new and we even have a convert who would like to get her own board some day and continue on the journey of learning to surf.

There were several others who were unable to attend on the day due to appointments, etc so we hope to make another booking down the track with your great school. I noticed some young people with smiles so wide who rarely have much to smile about. For me seeing their happy faces was the highlight

Tom did a great job in getting everyone up on waves and gave great individual attention. Please pass on our thanks to Tom from us.

Yours very kindly,

Sue McComb
